Tattoo Aftercare

Saniderm Aftercare:

Saniderm is an adhesive medical bandage designed for tattoos. It is breathable and flexible and protects your tattoo from outside irritants such as dirt and germs. Saniderm plays an important role in tattoo aftercare by sealing the fluids that your body secretes during the healing process and uses them to rapidly heal your tattoo.

  • Keep the Saniderm Bandage on for 3 to 5 days. 5 days is the number you want to shoot for.
  • There will be a plasma build up under the bandage. This is what heals the tattoo. It is going to look gross in some cases and you might ask “is this ok?” I can assure you it is. DO NOT take it off when you see that.
  • The only time you should take it off is if it irritates your skin in anyway. This is very rare but it can happen. If you start to see a redline form around the edge of bandage, take it off. that means its pulling on your skin.
  • While you have the Saniderm on, try not to excessively sweat. The sweat will get trapped under the bandage and can also cause irritation.
  • When you remove the Saniderm, follow the traditional aftercare.

Traditional Aftercare:

  • Wear plastic wrap for around 1 hour then remove it when you are home. Gently wash it with unscented antibacterial soap.
  • Gently pat it dry with a paper towel. Do not rub it.
  • Apply Lubriderm, Aveeno, or an extremely thin layer of Aquaphor to the tattoo. All must be unscented.
  • Wash the tattoo 2-3 times daily and apply the moisturizer after.
  • If there are any scabs or dead skin DO NOT PICK THEM. Picking them can cause your skin to bleed and can also cause ink loss.
  • Wear loose clothing over your tattoo while it heals to avoid rubbing.
  • DO NOT SWIM until the tattoo is fully healed.
  • Avoid direct sunlight. While the tattoo is healing you CAN NOT apply sun block. Once it is healed, apply sunblock whenever in the sun for long periods of time.
